Ferdinand
Independent Project
Acrylic, Pencil
When I was a little boy, my mother used to read me the
story of Ferdinand, a bull who just wanted to live among
the meadows in peace. The original illustrations in
the book she read me gave me the creeps. I tried to
use brighter colors and imagery with this piece, and
hope its a little more inviting. This painting is part
of a series of classic children's literature characters.
Ferdinand is iconified, with influence from cave paintings.
The scenery is minimal, which allows space for text
boxes, once the piece is put into a page layout program.
